Chicago has quite the love affair with it’s flag, and rightfully so- it’s a pretty awesome looking flag with some great meaning/symbolism behind it. Ever wonder what the Chicago Flag stands for? The four six-point red stars represent four major historical events:

• Fort Dearborn,
• The Great Chicago Fire of 1871,
• the World’s Colombian Exposition of 1893
• Century of Progress Exposition of 1933–1934

Then you have the blue stripes, the top blue stripe represents Lake Michigan and the Chicago River’s North Branch. The bottom blue stripe also represents the river, but the South Branch, and then also the canal. Although we couldn’t cram the top white stripes of the flag onto this bottle opener (and keep it looking this sharp), the three white stripes are for the city of Chicago’s North, West, and South Sides.
